Los Banos Abattoir Shows Resilience

Los Banos Abattoir faced the challenge of the pandemic and reinvented themselves. The long line of cars at their new drive-up meat market shows they were successful. They are the epitome of resilience in Los Banos. We asked Katie LaSalvia, sales and brand manager, to share her thoughts:

"I believe that the COVID-19 crisis has challenged business owners to reinvent themselves to meet the need of their customers. When I say reinvent, I am specifically referencing the ability to alter your business to meet the current need.

I believe that the COVID-19 crisis has challenged business owners to reinvent themselves to meet the need of their customers.

"For example, I reevaluated our day-to-day operation trying to find a way to become a safer and more desirable location to shop. From there, I was able to reinvent our Meat Market into a Drive Up Meat Market Service where customers were able to shop for their groceries from the safety of their own vehicle — something that was not offered anywhere else in town, but desperately needed and wanted.

"The pandemic also reminded business owners of the importance of helping each other, especially during harder times. As I was watching businesses being forced to close their doors, I was trying to find ways to use my doors to help move their products. I read about farmers having to disk up their fields, so I reached out to local farmers and offered to sell their products out of our Drive Up Meat Market. It was not a huge amount, but during hard times every little bit helps.

"This pandemic has most importantly been an alarming reminder of the need to be able to quickly adapt and why we must never remain stagnant. With challenges comes growth and it is important we remind ourselves of that so we do not become so overwhelmed that we do not act. We must be willing to execute in order to still have a business when this pandemic is over."
